Dr. Mahmoud El-Kati Asks Students to Examine History

Dr. Mahmoud El-Kati engaged students from South, Farmington and Lakeville High Schools, asking them to look more critically at our nation’s history. He also asked them to consider the true legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, and how a deep respect for humanity was at the heart of Dr. King’s work. “If you were my students,” Dr. El-Kati told the group, “the first thing I would have you do is read Dr. Martin Luther King’s Letter from a Birmingham Jail.” Dr. El-Kati emphasized how struggle is essential to the human experience, and that we must bring our personal sense of humanity to unjust systems.
