Farmington, Lakeville and South Students Together at South High

Students from Minneapolis South, Lakeville and Farmington High Schools joined together today to listen to writer and historian, Dr. Mahmoud El-Kati talk about “The Illusion of Race and Building Humanity by Understanding Culture, History and Community.” While the visit with Dr. El-Kati attracted nearly 600 hundred students just from South High, all students participating in s.t.a.r.t. enjoyed time with Dr. El-Kati to talk together about the differences between individual and systemic racism, and the importance of sharing our personal stories as we seek to create more just institutions. “Humanity and history are one and the same,” Dr. El-Kati said. We can’t have one without a deep understanding of the other.”
